Fashionable sailors

One of the essentials not paid much attention in mainstream sailing media is fashion.  What do long distance cruisers wear? At least, when we do wear clothes.  Now we don’t always wear clothes but in port and anchored close to other boats and/or local villages we do try to aspire to be respectful and cover up.  But when we don’t, what clothes do we wear?

So, one day in the Seychelles Yacht Club we were all having lunch and decided to take a few photos of what people were wearing.  Of course, the women were far more discerning about what they were wearing compared to the men.  You judge with the following pictures.

THE WOMEN

Of course there are always those moments where hi-fashion has to be put aside for practical reasons:

For those hikes where cool waterfalls or streams are available it's always handy to have a wrap to use after bathing. Connie hard on the slopes

THE MEN

Men haven’t caught on to the importance of fashion wear in the cruising community but there are some great displays and attempts at trying to fit in to the highly competitive world of cruisers fashion

And then there is yours truly:

Have all the fashonistas made the same crossing as you on SAGE?
Will we have more fashion shows in the future?
I liked Bernie’s get up the best.. what it lacks in co-ordination it makes up for in color!
Hope you are on the road to recovery.
We are camped at San Carlos in Sonora for a week.. some R&R after 6 days of steady driving.
Next Sunday we leave for another 2 day stint to Rincon.
    Hasta luego,
    Annie B.

I laughed out loud – thoroughly enjoyed the fashion details and pics! I did note the designer labels!!!! Rick would have had trouble competing. He wears shorts , shorts and more shorts – no socks – even though it’s -2. Now that i have retrieved my mitts, hats and woolies from the moth balls, your attire looks amazing – trade you!

I really hope that Kirsten, from Lop To, has for some hedge clippers to deal with her upper lip ~ unless that was just my darling brother pretending to go incognito. Cheers … Brian – glad to see you guys are still having a blast (other than the windy kind!)

OOPS! … oh the shame and the humiliation and the apologies!!!!! I took another look and realized that Kirsten does not have a moustache but, with the Tilly hat, does have a remarkable resemblance to “my darling brother” …. please forgive me (and my aging eyes), Kirsten. In my attempts to have some elder sibling fun at my brother’s expense, I certainly didn’t mean any harm. ~ Brian (this system won’t let me use a tiny font!)

Hi, I believe your website might be having browser compatibility problems.
When I take a look at your web site in Safari, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it’s got some overlapping issues.
I merely wanted to provide you with a quick heads up! Other
    than that, wonderful blog!
